https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fSQkPJpBqM If you are tired of reading a book, or attending my Zoom sessions, then you should consider watching some APUSH review videos. Here are some sources that I highly recommend:
Heimler's History This is a new channel I have found on YouTube. Mr. Heimler is an AP reader (grader) and offers a lot of key insights in very well-edited videos. In fact, we are currently using his DBQ worksheet for our own review sessions. Not only does Mr. Heimler offer great information but he also has practice session videos. So if you are interested in having more time on DBQ prep, then check out his videos, read the description of the videos (he will link to the necessary materials), and check out the comments (he will post any corrections there).
Gilder Lehrman This is an excellent source of content review. Gilder Lehrman has a close relationship with the College Board and is very much involved with the development of AP U.S. History. If you would like some video review over the vast amount of content in the course, then check out these videos. Crash Course and Hip Hughes A lot of you likely already watch these videos, but they still deserve a recommendation. The flavors are a bit different, but both channels offer very useful videos over content we cover in class. Make sure to check out the correct playlist when visiting these YouTube channels. Beginning this Monday, we will be reviewing for the modified 2020 APUSH exam. Here is the schedule:
Content Review On Monday’s, we will be doing Content Review. There will be scheduled Zoom sessions from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. The outlines that I will be following can be found under APUSH Review, James L. Smith’s Study Guides. For students who miss these sessions, I will make the video available afterwards.
DBQ Practice On Tuesday’s, we will be doing DBQs together. There will be scheduled Zoom sessions from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. I will be posting the DBQs on Tuesday mornings. Make sure to have the Modified DBQ Rubric and the DBQ worksheet, found under APUSH Review, prior to our practice sessions. In these sessions, we will have timed analysis of documents, break down prompts, and construct both thesis statements and outlines. This should help all of you with the biggest hurtle this year: the time crunch. And again, if anyone misses these sessions, I will make the video available afterwards.
Review Quizzes Every Thursday, all of you will have to complete a Review Quiz on McGraw-Hill Connect. These are going to correspond to a lot of the information we are covering every Monday. The Review Quizzes will be open from 8:00 am and will automatically close by 7:00 pm. Once started, you will only have 45 minutes to complete the quiz.
To Be Determined The College Board has not yet made available tutorials for the online exam process. When we learn more, I will make future announcements and likely schedule Zoom sessions to review that information with you all. Advice It is crucial that all of you seriously begin to think about preparing for this new testing environment. Consider whether you will write everything out by hand or will be typing your essay. Make sure that you know how you can enable split windows on the devices you plan to use on the day of the exam. Also, think about distractions, wifi connectivity, charged batteries, etc. And most importantly, you need to start timing yourself and abiding by the clock. This is the single greatest problem that is unavoidable on the day of the AP exam. For any student who missed the scheduled Ch 26 Quiz, or scored less than a 70, there is a make up quiz available on McGraw-Hill Connect today. The Ch 26 Make Up Quiz will be open from 12 pm to 5 pm. You will only have 30 minutes to complete it - DO NOT start the quiz after 4:30 pm as you will run out of the allotted time.
Ch 26 Assignments and Quiz
Three new assignments have been posted to McGraw-Hill Connect. The first two assignments (Ch 26 Reading Questions and Document Analysis - Four Freedoms) are both due on Wednesday, April 15th. The third assignment (Opposing Views - Japanese Internment) is due on Friday, April 17th. Also on McGraw-Hill Connect, there will be a Ch 26 Quiz on Thursday, April 16th from 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Be careful with making any typos when completing the fill-in-the-blank questions on the quiz, as the online system seems to mark them wrong. Zoom Sessions We will have two Zoom sessions for next week. This is due to the fact that I cannot have more than 100 students in one session. If you attend the first Zoom session, do not feel you must attend the second. We will be discussing grading, AP exam prep, and Ch 26 content. Please make sure to sign in with your FULL NAME when joining a session. Online Learning Schedule Below you will find a weekly breakdown of instructional time and office hours for each department. Social Studies is on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I will be scheduling future Zoom sessions during scheduled instructional times - this should not conflict with other departments. Also, if you have a question then you are welcome to reach out during office hours. As of now, email and itlearning messages are the way to get quick answers. AP Exam Update You can review all the changes to AP exams this year. I would HIGHLY recommend you taking the time to read through the changes. Here are some of the key points to remember:
Grades The district has still not yet finalized grading policy for the rest of the school year. Teachers have been told to start to assign work and continue teaching. The assignments posted to McGraw Hill Connect are MANDATORY. They will count as grades in the future. Please remember that these assignments have DEADLINES. This should be a good reminder of what the online AP exam will be like in May.
Zoom Meeting We will have our first APUSH Q&A via Zoom on Monday, April 6th at 1pm. We will discuss whatever questions you guys may have regarding the AP Exam, WWII, grades, etc. Make sure to sign in with your FULL NAME. Here is the official info: Topic: APUSH - Gallos Time: Apr 6, 2020 01:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada) Join Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/454409758?pwd=ZTdLSjlHNDlMTFpFVXVnc281ai9RZz09 Meeting ID: 454 409 758 Password: 854540 Ch 25 Assignment and Quiz An assignment has been posted through your online textbook (McGraw Hill Connect). This is mandatory and may count as a grade in the future (at this time the district is still deciding official grading policies). This assignment is currently open - make sure you have read the entire chapter as students are only allowed one submission. The Ch 25 Questions are due by Monday, April 6th at 1pm. There will be a Ch 25 Quiz through the online textbook on Tuesday, April 7th at 2:30 pm. This is also mandatory. Students are encouraged to use their notes. The quiz will be 30 minutes (most will not need the entire time to finish). I've attached the instructions (and links) to the online textbook to this post. All of you should have already registered for the online textbook in the fall semester. If there are any problems please contact me via email, or message on itslearning.
